I love hearing from you all and this post really touches my heart in such a special way. Thank you for telling us your story, Angie.

Meet Angie Wells:

‘My great grandma taught me how to crochet when I was about 6 or 7.

‘I have lots of hand made items from her. I love to crochet because it brings happy memories to life and it relaxes me.

‘I was a fidgety child and she thought it would help me to calm down for a few minutes. I loved it. The patterns with charts made perfect sense to me. I love how peacefully simple it is. I have suffered through 8 miscarriages in the past 10 years. Each time I would pick up my hook and some yarn and just start working. No one knows how many blankets and scarves I have given away were there to soak up my tears. It is very therapeutic to focus on something else for a few hours.

‘Now I have my amazing miracle child. She is so sweet and loving and autistic. Her “disability” only makes her shine more. She is just as fidgety as I was. When the day gets to be too much for us we bust out the yarn and work.

‘She sits on the floor in front of me and lets the yarn slide through her hands. She loves the feeling of the yarn as it runs through her hands. Sometimes she will take off with a ball and unwind it all around the house. Most of the time she just watches me with this wonderful look on her face. She is still young, but I hope to help her learn to crochet some day, too. Maybe it will be just as awesome for her as it is for me. The awesome blankets and sweaters are just gravy.'
