Coraline’s Summer Crush Scarf

Coraline’s Summer Crush Scarf

Oh that sweet summer crush that makes you feel light and at ease! It's the exact sentiment captured in this scarf, airy and weightless, but would make you feel warm too. Make it come to life with the free pattern below, or even better, get the ad-free printable PDF pattern here!

My dear friend Coraline found herself in a bit of a whirlwind after her sister's wedding last year and she's continuing her sabbatical in South America. She hasn't kept in touch much and she did apologize for not updating us. It seems she met someone special on the cruise ship on her way to Rio – lucky girl.

Most of Coraline's time has been spent writing and working on a local private property that raises laying chickens for sale and barter in Angra dos Reis. She says it is both gorgeous and serene. (Her new beau has extended his residency at a biological reserve nearby and they get to spend a few hours a week together. She is very fond of him and hinting she may be willing to modify her itinerary.)

She's been on sabbatical for nearly a year now without any hint as to when she will return home. Nonetheless, I miss her and sent her this lovely crochet scarf that I made from 100% silk yarn. It's light enough that she can wear it no matter the temperature.

I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I have. I'll do my best to get pictures of the crochet scarf made with Simply Soft. I've chosen a lovely shade of blue called Ocean that I can't wait to see it in. First, must finish some ideas that are burning holes in my brain. Do you know that feeling?

@Janet Stockinger, I'm sure you can. The drape may be stiffer though, just keep that in mind.

I thought the pattern was well-written, almost self-explanatory. It's beautiful! And no typos. But how do you sew in the tails? I've tried a couple of different ways, and they always straggle out after a few washings. Do you use a needle and thread? Also, what is the best way to wear this scarf? Is it long enough to wrap around a person's neck or just long enough to drape over the shoulders?

Thank you so much, Coreen! When I weave in the tails, I use a thin darning needle and work in an out of the stitches making sure to pierce the yarn. Many times, I work back through the opposite direction. You can even go so far as to add a tiny dab of fabric glue allowing it to dry for 24 hrs. As far as the fit, it's all going to depend, but the length is pretty tradition. :)
