Stitch Guide in American Terms –
FHDC – foundation(less) half double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet

Special Stitches –
Modified V-Stitch – Called “v-stitch” in the pattern, this is not actually a v-stitch. Work 2 dc in the space of the 2 dc of the previous row as you would a v-stitch, but do not chain.

FHDC – (Foundation Half Double Crochet, SEE VIDEO below) Chain 1, yarn over, insert hook into the chain, yarn over, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull up through the first loop on the hook (this is your first chain loop, 3 loops on hook) yarn over, pull through 3. First FHDC completed. * Yarn over, insert your hook into the first chain loop, yarn over, pull up a loop (this is your second chain loop- 3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3. 2 FHDC completed. Repeat from * until you reach the desired number of FHDC.

Reversible Crochet Dress Pattern - Pretty, Pretty Princess, SimplyCollectibleCrochet.com

Notes –
Pattern Companion Video is at the end of the page below the pattern. This pattern is worked from the top down.  Rows 1, 4, 7, and 10 are buttonhole rows so instruction will be slightly different within each row. The bodice is worked back and forth in rows. The skirt is worked in rounds without turning. Straps are worked separately in rows and sewn on. Beginning chain in each row counts as a stitch. This dress is designed in such a way that you may choose to make the next size up and place the buttons wherever you need them to allow for another year or two of wear.
