World Wide Artist Blog Hop with Celina Lane

World Wide Artist Blog Hop with Celina Lane

Last week, Cylinda Mathews invited me to join the World Wide Artist Blog Hop and I am so excited about being selected. It's incredible to me that I could be chosen to follow her in this spot because her work is so fantastically different and beautiful.

Cylinda and I became friends online through a group where the members mentor each other. The members of the group each have different strengths and weaknesses and we are all at different levels of experience in business and family. We've all sort of adopted each other and the experience is delightful.
I hope you enjoy these little tidbits about me!

What is this World Wide Artist Blog Hop about?

Artists around the world post answers to four questions on their blogs and link to a minimum of one, maximum of three artists who post their answers the following Monday. The next Blog Hop post will be September 22nd.

Here are the brief questions for each participant:

Why do I do what I do?
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
How does my creative process work?
What am I working on now?

Some Previous Participants:

Cylinda Mathews – Crochet Memories
Jessie Anest Rayot – Jessie at Home
Kim Guzman – KimGuzman.com

I have invited the following Participants for next week’s entry:

Michele Maks – Mainly Crochet
Kyla Grexton – Keep Me in Stitchez
Lea-Ann McGregor, Knitting Today

Okay, here we go with the first question. Why do I do what I do?

This is easy. I can't help myself.

For me, sound evokes taste. Taste evokes color. Color evokes texture. Texture evokes images. Images evoke sound. All these things combined evoke rhythm. Rhythm evokes music. Music evokes math. Math evokes relationship & repetition.

It's cyclical.
It's life.
It's spiritual.
It's necessary.
Without these things, we starve.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I don't see my work as differing much, but there are a few differences, I suppose. Much of my focus is on simplicity and orderliness. My brain is chaotic and I find peace in creating patterns for simple things that provide a multitude of ways to complete items depending on my mood or circumstances.

When I was designing these cats, I would think, “Do I want to finish this cat with a long neck resembling experience, or a short pudgy kitten who is very present one moment at a time?”

How does my creative process work?

I don't understand it myself because it's an expressive product of my environment and circumstances. The complexity of what I produce is directly related to my personal challenges and immediate need to balance things. There are times when everything in my head is very still and comfortable. At those moments, satisfaction runs deep. Then a new thirst begins. It's like wonderment and my thoughts are scattery, but very clear. (It feels a bit like the toddler stage of creativity- stumbling and curious.) Then there is an insane, explosive burst of chaos like an itch you can't reach because it's moving. That's when the insanity begins. That's when you can't sleep because you can't get this unidentified “something” off your mind. (If you've ever been pregnant or been around someone that's been pregnant, it's a bit like nesting. It's a harvest.)

What am I working on now?

I'm homeschooling again this year and still restructuring my business with more Free Patterns to compliment my Paid Patterns, but there are approximately 20 patterns at various stages of completion. Starting new designs is never a problem.

Aside from that, my new FUN is Crochet Street! This is something I absolutely love and I'm having a blast with it. Crochet Street is my site where I collect roundups and organize them by category. Seriously, Pinterest was okay, but I needed them centralized and I thought, “Why not put them all together on a site? Certainly I'm not the only one that would enjoy this.” Check it out HERE.

Thank you so much for coming by! Please visit my Free Patterns to get a glimpse of what I do and see me on Ravelry. (See the bearded guy in the sidebar? That's my pattern and it links directly to Ravelry when you click on it.) If you crochet, you'll love CROCHET STREET. Don't forget to sign up for my email newsletters!

I really like crochetstreet.com ...it makes sense and all of it is categorized so if you want a hat pattern you do not have to go through a thousand scarf shall etc patterns before you get to a hat pattern you would like.....
