I just love this pattern can’t wait to make it for my granddaughters. I think they will love it. I plan to make myself one when I make theirs. Your patterns are really great. Keep up the good work!
Thank you, Joyce. Enjoy 🙂
So glad to find an oversized poncho pattern…I’ll be making a few for Christmas 2015…
It’s a great poncho! Thanx for the large sizes.
I picked this one up a while back. The first one I make will be for myself!!
That’s wonderful!
I can’t wait to make this. It looks easy enough and it requires “normal, everyday” yarn that is easily attenable. Thank you for such a great pattern ☺
My pleasure!
Could I make this in wool that his like double knitweight yarn ,Please
Hello, Lorraine ~ I cannot guarantee how it will turn out with the materials you select, but the best way to start is with a gauge swatch to determine whether or not you are getting the same size. At that point, you’ll get a feel for the weight of your garment and the possible drape. Then, you’ll be able to determine whether you like it!
Love it
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for sharing! I’m so excited to get my yarn and begin! I am new to written patterns thought and I’m not quite sure what you mean on the increase rows? Any chance you can explain? Thanks again!!!!! ????
Hi, Sara ~
It refers to rows that include increases. Hope this helps.
That looks super cozy! And like it would look great over jeans or for tryin’ to stay warm on the couch. 🙂
Absolutely!
Hi, I’m a size 6. Should I follow the child/petite pattern? What size are you wearing in the picture? Thanks.
Hi, Patty!
It depends on your height. Petite is typically under 5 ft. I’m wearing Medium in the picture as a size 8.
Thanks!
Thank you.
My pleasure.
Could you please explain how the increases work I don’t get it. Thank so much!
It’s 2 in each stitch. 🙂
I love it and can’t wait to make one each for my 15 yr old daughter and myself! I also am loving some of your other patterns I just saw as I scrolled down to comment… Yay!
Thank You for sharing your talents!!
Thank you, Audrey! I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for coming by.
It’s so lovely! Which size pattern is the model wearing in the photo?
Hi, Michelle!
Sorry for the late response. That is the Medium. 🙂
Celina, are you wearing the petite size in the photo?
Hi, Lydia!
Sorry for the late response, but that is the Medium. 🙂
What does inc hdc4 mean?
If you notice in the abbreviations, it should tell you that an increase is two stitches in each stitch of the previous row. An hdc is half double crochet. These are all beginner techniques that you can review on youtube. Hope that helps!
when you join the rounds, do you join at the chain one?
Hi, Taira ~ Yes, you do.
Just looking at this just makes me want to fall asleep! Perfect looking for the winter! :o)
So sweet, Shayla! That’s exactly how I felt making it.
If I understand the pattern correctly when it says inc HDC 5 – that means you put 2 stitches in same stitch for 5 stitches? or 2 every 5HDC
Hi, Kathryn ~ HDC 5 means you will literally HDC 5 in a row (over the next 5 stitches.) If you ever the the number before the stitch, such as 5 HDC, that means you crochet 5 HDC in the same stitch.
In this pattern, you are probably seeing inc, HDC 5 which means you will do 2 HDC in a stitch, followed by HDC 5. I hope that helps.
I love this poncho! Could this be done with a knit pattern instead of crochet? TIA!
Thank you, Jessica! I’m certain it can be. Challenge accepted.
Your summary for this pattern says plus size but to me that means 1X-3X. The pattern only goes to XL. How to I increase the pattern to a 2x/3x? I just love this design but don’t think XL is going to fit.
Hi, Kathy! Thanks for your comment and question. My MIL wears 3x and wears this patten well. If you need to make it larger due to gauge or the simple desire for a longer piece, continue with the increases in the same manner and add more yarn. Thanks!
May I ask what size your MIL tried on or did you make it larger just for her?
She wears 3x and is 5’10”. I did not make it longer, but I do know that larger women have typically added one more skein. 🙂
Thank you so much for the info. I can’t wait to get one started soon enough. It’s already chilly in the morning around here!
I’m confused about how to make it larger. I understand to make it longer you add rounds. But to make it larger you add increases to each round right? So to go from the XL to a 3x would you add 2 more increases? Thank you so much. I love this pattern.
I’m so sorry, Cindy. Let me see if this helps. Firstly, remember that your work will stretch. Mine stretched up to 5 inches and got so cozy.
Now, looking at the following pattern, your increases will remain the same, but the half double crochets between the increases will increase by 1 each row. Notice Round 43 has 19 and Round 44 has 20. Round 45 has 21.
Continuing to increase the number of half double crochets between the increases creates a gradual effect. This way, Round 50 would be repeating the set [inc, hdc 26]. I sure hope this helps! Just keep going like that. Don’t increase your increases- only hdcs between the increases or your piece will be wonky. Round 51 [inc, hdc 27] repeated around.
Round 43: *inc, hdc19*, sl st, ch1 (252sts)
Round 44: *inc, hdc20*, sl st, ch1 (264sts)
Round 45: *inc, hdc21*, sl st, ch1 (276sts)
Round 46: *inc, hdc22*, sl st, ch1 (288sts)
Round 47: *inc, hdc23*, sl st, ch1 (300sts)
Round 48: *inc, hdc24*, sl st, ch1 (312sts)
Round 49: *inc, hdc25*, sl st, ch1 (324sts)
Do you allow people to make the pattern and sell what they make, as long as they credit the pattern to you?
Hi, Nancy ~ Thank you for asking. I do not allow any reproductions of my pattern. (That would be bad.)
Items you make from my patterns are yours to do with what you please. 🙂
Thanks, I meant selling what I made. I never would reproduce someone else’s pattern, since I write them too.
Thank you, Nancy! I thought that was what you meant, but I wanted to spell it out in the case anyone else misunderstood. 🙂 I appreciate you!
Just love this. But are your plus sizes. Are they the medium to large. But if the plus size is another place, I cant find it.
Just continue increasing. Thanks!
Hi could I use #4 worst weight yarn? Or would it come out wrong? Thanks so much for sharing
Hello, Trish.
It would probably be too small.
Hi I have a question. On Round 21: *inc, hdc3*, sl st, ch1 (60sts). Does that mean ever third stitch I increase or I increase for 3 only?
Hi! You increase, then you work 3. So, it looks like this:
2 hdc in the same, hdc, hdc, hdc…. Hope this helps!
Yes it does thank you. for some reason I was blanking.
The best poncho, question how can I make the back side of the poncho longer?
Thanks! I don’t really know the answer to your question, but you could try adding extra rows, back n forth, to the back. Good luck!
if i wanted to make thus poncho with hood in 3x dize how many increase rows should i do before the length?
Hi, loyann ~ If you notice, each row is an increase row. You will just keep going until you get the length you need!
I just like the valuable info you supply to your articles.
I will bookmark your blog and take a look at once
more here regularly. I’m somewhat certain I will be told many new stuff
right here! Best of luck for the next!
