Coraline in Minden Cozy Oversized Free Cowl Wrap Pattern

Coraline in Minden Cozy Oversized Free Cowl Wrap Pattern

Recently, Coraline's trip to Rio was rescheduled as her sister Penelope had moved her wedding date up so the entire family could have their reunion together as an extended reception. How cool is that? So, Coraline went up to Minden, Ontario last week to watch her parents and uncle in the Ontario 55+ Winter Games. Penelope's wedding is apparently this weekend and from there, everyone is heading to Aspen!

Coraline in Minden – crochet wrap pattern

Needless to say, Coraline sent me a check for a ton of yarn to make something special for her and her sister Penelope. This is just getting to be too much fun! How awesome that you get to experience a part of that? This oversized cowl wrap is just that and it's perfect. Fabulously wide and the perfect length, it isn't heavy due to it's mesh design and still quite warm as each mesh square creates a little pocket of warmth.

Just think. Coraline is on sabbatical for 10 more months and her sister Penelope is planning an impromptu honeymoon! In the spirit of Dr. Seuss, “Oh, the things I will make!”

Tons of pics here and the free pattern is below- just scroll down. Stay tuned for Penelope's Whimsical Slouch over the next few days.

Abbreviations in US terms:

ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
fhdc – foundation half double crochet (video below the pattern)
hdc – half double crochet
sk – skip
dc – double crochet

Chain counts as a stitch throughout.
Join new color finishing the last stitch of the previous row.

Gauge in pattern, 4″: 9 stitches, 5 rounds

Approximate Finished Dimensions:  Length 96″, width 22″

Instructions:

(Note:  There was a typo in the repeats. I will not be able to work this up for some time, but the start is definitely fhdc 225. I suspect the repeats are 112 because the chain 3 in round 2 counts as a stitch. If you get to test this before I do, please let me know in the comments. I apologize profusely for any confusion.)

Round 1:  Using Peacock, ch 1, fhdc 225, sl st into chain to form a loop, do not turn – 226 fhdc
Round 2:  ch 3, *sk 1, dc, ch 1* repeat from * to * 112 times, join to 2nd chain with a sl st, do not turn – 112 dc, 112 ch-1 spaces
Round 3-13:  repeat round 2 – 112 dc, 112 ch-1 spaces
Join Grey
Round 14-25: using Grey, repeat round 2 – 112 dc, 112 ch-1 spaces
Round 26: ch 1, working in both the stitches and chains hdc around, sl st, fasten off, break yarn, work in the tails.

I'm kinda new to crocheting so when doing the fhdc do you count the stitches on the top of the bottom when figuring out how many you have.

I just found this pattern. Sadly upon my search to find the reflective yarn... I have been unsuccessful. I even went to yarnspirations.com and they ONLY have 1 color of it and it's on clearance. I was hoping to make this but I'll have to find a substitute yarn in order to make it. Very sad. I liked that the yarn had a reflective strip in it.

I love the pattern...very easy to follow. My problem I don't know how to wrap this beautiful piece. Do you have anything that can be used as a guide?
