Stitch Guide in American Terms –
FHDC – foundation(less) half double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet

Special Stitches –
Modified V-Stitch – Called “v-stitch” in the pattern, this is not actually a v-stitch. Work 2 dc in the space of the 2 dc of the previous row as you would a v-stitch, but do not chain.

FHDC – (Foundation Half Double Crochet, SEE VIDEO below) Chain 1, yarn over, insert hook into the chain, yarn over, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull up through the first loop on the hook (this is your first chain loop, 3 loops on hook) yarn over, pull through 3. First FHDC completed. * Yarn over, insert your hook into the first chain loop, yarn over, pull up a loop (this is your second chain loop- 3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 3. 2 FHDC completed. Repeat from * until you reach the desired number of FHDC.

Notes –
This pattern is worked from the top down.  Rows 1, 4, 7, and 10 are buttonhole rows so the instruction will be slightly different within each row. The bodice is worked back and forth in rows. The skirt is worked in rounds without turning. Straps are worked separately in rows and sewn on. Beginning chain in each row counts as a stitch. This dress is designed in such a way that you may choose to make the next size up and place the buttons wherever you need them to allow for another year or two of wear.

Since this is an older post, I’m just hoping someone can answer my question. I’m not sure exactly where to sew on the straps and my granddaughter lives far away. Does anyone know how many stitches I should count over to sew on the straps?

Hi, I am finding my swatch isn't as smoothly crocheted as yours. I ripped it and did it again, issue is finding the chain in which the first yo stitch is made to the left. Is there a good clue is . The second time it looks smoother looking more like yours rather than ups and downs.

I have used this pattern to make a Dalek dress and a Norwegian Bunad dress. I love it! I’d love to share photos of them but sadly I’m not clever enough!

I am very interested in a dress like this or larger sizes. 6T-10T. Can you send me a pattern? Would like to have no buttons, not reversable. I do like the shoulder straps. Simple pattern. Thanks
