Simply Collectible Crochet officially began in October 2010 after using crochet as an escape to regain my sanity from staying home with a sweet and precious toddler who was learning to read, but had a very strong personality and sensory sensitivities.
Summer of 2010 was extremely difficult for us and I bought my first skein and got on youtube to relearn the craft. My brain was starving. I designed my first amigurumi in September 2010 and sold it to a dear friend who supported what I was doing so much that she didn’t even know the character I had recreated. Sanity was returning. Crochet had officially saved my life- and that of my family.
After posting my creation on Facebook, a super crafty friend suggested I post my pattern on Etsy and I spent hours trying to get the format of my pattern like others I’d seen and I signed up for Etsy.
Up until my son was born, I’d worked my entire life and had never struggled with money until I quit working to stay home. When my son was two- after two weeks of counting change to purchase bananas- I begged my husband to let me help and I started working part time nights and weekends at a grocers. I was worn out and so was my family. I had already been crocheting and writing patterns. After 3 years and opening my Etsy, Ravelry and Craftsy stores, we prayed and prayed and saw my pattern sales exceed what I was making at the grocers part time. I took a leave of absence to work on patterns and designs and my shop took off. Two months later, I quit my job and I’ve been adding patterns and homeschooling ever since.
I could never have done this without the countless supporters.
