1-3 lb: 8.5-9″ circumference, 3.5-4″ length

3-5 lb: 11-11.5″ circumference, 4-5″ length

6-8 lb: 12-12.5″ circumference, 5-6″ length

9-11 lb (Newborn): 13-14″ circumference, 6-6.5″ length

*These are our finished sizes. If yours doesn’t fit within these measurements, please check your gauge.

Materials – Extra soft worsted weight yarn

  • We recommend Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice.
  1. Dusty Rose
  2. Magenta
  3. White
  • 1-3 lb: ~ 17 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons
  • 3-5 lb: ~34 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons
  • 6-8 lb: ~43 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons
  • 9-11 lb (Newborn): ~51 yards of yarn for hat only, not for add-ons

G-6 (4.00mm) crochet hook

2 small black buttons

Fabric scissors

Yarn needle, to weave ends

Gauge – 3 dc stitches x 2 rows is 1″

Starting with Magenta yarn,

Round 2: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 3 sc in next st, join (20 sts)

Cut yarn and change to Dusty Rose yarn.

Round 3: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, 3 dc in next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, join (26 sts)

Small Wing (Make 2)

Starting with Magenta yarn,

ch 5

Round 2: ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 3 sc in next st, join (22 sts)

Cut yarn and change to Dusty Rose yarn.

Round 3: ch 1, hdc in next 4 sts, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next 3 sts, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (29 sts)

  1. With Magenta yarn and a yarn needle
  2. Whipstitch (hand sewing) the flat sides of the big and small wings together
  3. Repeat with other side of wing
  4. Attach the wings to the back of the hat, using what will be the ‘center’ of the wings. The both sides of wings are joined together.

Nose

With Dusty Rose yarn,

ch 2

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (7 sts)

  1. With Dusty Rose yarn and a yarn needle
  2. Attach nose center nose to the front of the hat, just above the ribbing

Antennas

With Dusty Rose yarn,

ch 9

Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook, slst in remaining sts, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (9 sts)

  1. With Dusty Rose yarn and a yarn needle
  2. Attach the antennas to the top of hat as shown in pictures

Eyes

With White yarn,

ch 2

Round 1: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (9 sts)

  1. With white yarn, and a yarn needle
  2. Attach the white eyes to the hat just above the nose on each side
  3. With White yarn, 2 small black buttons, and a yarn needle
  4. Attach eyes anywhere on the white part of eyes
