It is a question rather than a comment: How prevalent are doilies in this century or time period?

@Bren Stewart, personally speaking, I come from a fairly long line of needle-workers and have doilies that my great grandmother crocheted in the early 1900s. I love them, my mother loved them and I have sold a few that I made on Etsy. So, while they may not be the decoration of choice for many in America, people do still use them and admire the work that goes into them. As a crochet person, I find them very interesting and satisfying to make. They are not only suitable for topping a side-table, shelf or dresser, but, mounted inside a wooden embroidery hoop, they look stunning hanging on a wall - I have a few myself.

These are so pretty and creative! Some of them remind me of holiday snowflakes i made one year to hang on the tree or in windows. They were sooo cute. several different designs. Starched them to keep them stiff for hanging. Lost the patterns and never have found them again.
