25 Easy Crochet Towel Topper Patterns

25 Easy Crochet Towel Topper Patterns

Transform your kitchen towels from ordinary to extraordinary with a crocheted towel topper. Towel toppers add a touch of color and handmade flair to the kitchen, while also keeping your towels within reach where you need them.

From simple and functional to stylish and intricate, these crochet patterns are a great way to add a unique touch to your kitchen towels. Plus, they’re easy for beginners or experienced crocheters to stitch up.

You can add a crochet towel topper to any of your existing dish towels or create a set of matching towels and toppers for a cohesive look. They also make great gifts for housewarmings or hostess gifts.

What is a Crochet Towel Topper?

A crocheted topper on a towel serves as a hanger. It can be sewn directly onto the towel or you can make a ring or a sleeve that you can use to hang any towel. They are usually made by stitching into the fabric of the towel, then working a piece that folds over on itself and uses a button to hold the towel on a bar, such as the handle of the stove.

Easy crochet towel topper patterns like these are quick, fun, and easy projects that are a great way to use leftover yarn in your stash. They allow you to hang towels where you need them and are an ideal last-minute gift, since everyone uses towels!

They can also be a fun way to try different stitch patterns, once you have the general idea of how to make them down. Check out our Ultimate Crochet Stitch Library to find 45 fun crochet stitches to use on your towel toppers and other projects.

Materials You Will Need to Crochet Towel Toppers

First and foremost, you will need a towel to add your topper to. Thinner towels made from woven material are the easiest to work with, since you will need to be able to pierce the fabric to make a foundation for your stitches.

You’ll also need a needle that’s sharp enough to go through the towel easily to make the foundation stitches you will crochet from.

You’ll also need the yarn you want to use to crochet your towel topper. Most of the patterns here use worsted weight yarn. Cotton is a great choice because it is absorbent if you wipe your hands on it, and it’s machine washable, so you don’t have to do anything special to get your towels clean.

Lily Sugar ‘n Cream and Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton are both good options, and have a wide range of colors that you can choose from for your topper. If you want to use acrylic yarn (which is also machine washable), something like Red Heart Super Saver or Lion Brand Wool-Ease would be a good choice.

You’ll also need a crochet hook in the size called for in the pattern. Gauge is not critical for these towel topper crochet patterns, but if you aren’t getting the same gauge as the designer calls for your towel topper will come out a different size.

In addition to these supplies you’ll need a pair of scissors, a button of the size called for in the pattern (and a smaller needle and thread for sewing on the button) or a wooden ring if you’re making a ring holder.

A stitch marker may also be helpful to mark the end of the row or round, and a measuring tape will ensure your project is the size you need it to be.
