Crochet Poncho Pattern

If you ever needed a fantastic piece of outerwear that was easy to maintain, store, and make, this is it. Follow this easy peasy pattern to fit your needs. Start with the child or petite, or if you choose to make a women's size, begin there are follow the same pattern for completion until you reach the length you desire. Made with bulky yarn, this pattern is unpredictably easy and fast. Make a child's poncho in a few hours. Make an adult size relaxing over just a few days a couple hours at a time. This pattern calls for an 11.50mm / P hook and Super Bulky Yarn and everything is listed in the pattern below. Enjoy! Cowl Hooded Poncho - Free #Crochet Pattern from Simply Collectible

Abbreviations:

ch- chain
hdc- half double crochet
inc – increase (2 in the same stitch)
sk- skip
ea- each
st- stitch
sl st- slip stitch
sts- stitches
 

Materials Needed:

• Super Bulky, Loops N Threads – For Child & Petite, 6 skeins- approx 624 yds – For Medium & Larger, 8 skeins- approx 832yds

• Susan Bates P-hook, 11.50mm or Boye Q-hook

• Stitch Marker
• Yarn Needle
• Scissors

Gauge, 4” x 4”: 4 rows, 7 sts

Special Instruction for X-Large Size:  SKIP R27-28, R30-31, R33, R35. You will increase every row and make up the length later.

Do not turn your work.
Work all hdcs in back loops only.
For sl sts, use both loops.
Ch1 does not count as stitch.

Child & Petite:

Round 1: ch45, join in first ch (both loops), ch1, hdc44, sl st (using both loops), ch1
Round 2-13: hdc44, sl st, ch1
This is the end of the Cowl. Continue to R14 to make the Poncho.
Round 14: *inc, hdc10* (48sts)
Round 15-20: hdc48, sl st, ch1
Round 21: *inc, hdc3*, sl st, ch1 (60sts)
Round 22: *inc, hdc4*, sl st, ch1 (72sts)
Skip to Round 23 below and continue to desired length.

Medium & Large:

Round 1: ch61, join in first ch (both loops), ch1, hdc60, sl st (using both loops), ch1
Round 2-16: hdc60, sl st, ch1
This is the end of the Cowl. Continue to R17 to make the Poncho.
Round 17: *inc, hdc4* (72sts)
Round 18-22: hdc72, sl st, ch1
Skip to Round 23 below and continue to desired length.

Round 23: *inc, hdc5*, sl st, ch1 (84sts)
Round 24: *inc, hdc6*, sl st, ch1 (96sts)
Round 25: *inc, hdc7*, sl st, ch1 (108sts)
Round 26: *inc, hdc8*, sl st, ch1 (120sts)
Round 27-28: hdc around, sl st, ch1 (120sts)
Round 29: *inc , hdc9*, sl st, ch1 (132sts)
Round 30-31: hdc around, sl st, ch1 (132sts)
For Capelet, fasten off and sew the tail in. Continue for Poncho.
Round 32: *inc, hdc10*, sl st, ch1 (144sts)
Round 33: hdc around, sl st, ch1 (144sts)
Round 34: *inc, hdc11*, sl st, ch1 (156sts)
Round 35: hdc around, sl st, ch1 (156sts)
Round 36: *inc, hdc12*, sl st, ch1 (168sts)
Round 37: *inc, hdc13*, sl st, ch1 (180sts)
Round 38: *inc, hdc14*, sl st, ch1 (192sts)
Round 39: *inc, hdc15*, sl st, ch1 (204sts)
Round 40: *inc, hdc16*, sl st, ch1 (216sts)
Round 41: *inc, hdc17*, sl st, ch1 (228sts)
Round 42: *inc, hdc18*, sl st, ch1 (240sts)
When you find the length is sufficient, fasten off and sew in the tails. Continue for a longer fit.
Round 43: *inc, hdc19*, sl st, ch1 (252sts)
Round 44: *inc, hdc20*, sl st, ch1 (264sts)
Round 45: *inc, hdc21*, sl st, ch1 (276sts)
Round 46: *inc, hdc22*, sl st, ch1 (288sts)
Round 47: *inc, hdc23*, sl st, ch1 (300sts)
Round 48: *inc, hdc24*, sl st, ch1 (312sts)
Round 49: *inc, hdc25*, sl st, ch1 (324sts)

Greetings, The Poncho is comfortably beautiful looking, and I love how in the picture, the sides look like bell sleeves! My question is, from the pattern, how would I create sleeves? I thank you for any ideas.

Thank you for your cowl hooded poncho pattern. When I inc hdc4 do I increase in the next four consecutive stitches or spread them out over the whole row?

@Jill, sorry for my typo. That should be 2hdc in next stitch and then 1hdc in each of the next 4 stitches.

@Jill, I’m not the designer but if you check her earlier replies she has explained that it’s inc, hdc4 which means increase by doing 2hdc in the next stitch and then 1 hdc in each of the next 5 stitches. Hope this helps

When it says for the Capelet, fasten off and sew the tail in. Continue for Poncho. i do not understand what that means. Love the pattern thanks for sharing
